Major Renovation Completed at Las Vegas Convention Center

The Las Vegas Convention Center recently reopened following a significant $600 million refurbishment. The updated facility is being praised as one of the finest convention venues worldwide, featuring an upgraded lobby and improved amenities designed to impress attendees.

Ready to Host the Consumer Electronics Show

The timing of the reopening was strategically planned to coincide with the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a leading event organized by the Consumer Technology Association. The grand reopening ceremony took place in the newly renovated Central Grand Hall Lobby just before CES began.

Among the upgrades is a contemporary Central Grand Hall Lobby with a stunning glass curtain wall that fills the space with natural light. The venue now also includes three large digital screens to provide visitors with real-time event schedules and updates.

Additional enhancements include a climate-controlled corridor, a redesigned entrance to the South Hall, as well as new boardrooms and administrative offices to better support event operations.

This extensive modernization effort was years in the making. While the center had been expanded earlier in the 2000s, the growing demand necessitated further expansion. A new hall was added in 2021, followed by ongoing renovations which took place while the center remained active, hosting various conventions and exhibitions.

Last year, CES attracted over 140,000 visitors, contributing more than $381 million to the local economy. The newly updated convention center is equipped to meet the demands of such large-scale events and is expected to continue hosting major industry gatherings.

A World-Class Convention Venue

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, along with CES organizers, celebrated the reopening as a milestone. Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, described the venue as “the best convention center in the world.”

Reflecting on the history, Shapiro highlighted the bold decision to relocate CES to Las Vegas from Chicago in 1978. At the time, Las Vegas was primarily known for gambling and quick divorces, making the move a daring choice. However, the move ultimately helped establish Las Vegas as a prominent hub for business and large-scale events beyond its gaming reputation.
