LA Casino Evacuated Due to False Bomb Threat

False Bomb Threat Prompts Casino Evacuation
Last Thursday afternoon, a bomb threat led to the urgent evacuation of a casino and nearby buildings in the Los Angeles area. Fortunately, the threat was later determined to be a false alarm.
Caller Demands Ransom During Bomb Threat
At approximately 4 pm, the Park West Bicycle Casino and Hotel in Bell Gardens evacuated hundreds of visitors after receiving a call demanding $50,000. The caller threatened to shoot on the gaming floor and claimed an accomplice could plant an explosive device if necessary.
Law enforcement arrived promptly, including specialized tactical units, and began an extensive search operation lasting about five hours. Their investigation confirmed there was no actual danger.
Authorities used armored BearCat vehicles to secure the entrances while officers conducted detailed sweeps throughout the large casino complex.
Bell Gardens Police Chief Paul Camacho emphasized the need to treat every threat seriously, stating that the priority was to ensure public safety by thoroughly inspecting the premises.
Patrons Allowed to Collect Winnings Amid Evacuation
Those inside the casino experienced a mix of tension and confusion, as many were not informed about the true cause of the evacuation which increased anxiety.
The decision to let gamblers cash out at the cashier before leaving contributed to a misleading sense that the threat was less critical than it appeared.
Following official clearance from authorities deeming the property safe, the casino and hotel resumed normal operations the next day. Roads around the area, including nearby freeway off-ramps, were also reopened.
The coordinated response involved various expert teams from California Highway Patrol, Huntington Park, Culver City, and South Gate.
Context of Rising Hoax Threats in Los Angeles
This incident is part of a larger pattern of prank calls targeting key locations around Los Angeles, such as Van Nuys Airport and LAX.
Similar situations, like the recent false bomb threat at the Grand Island Casino Resort, have caused significant security measures and public alarm.
Making fake emergency calls, especially those involving bomb threats, is a serious federal offense. Identified suspects in these “swatting” cases can face severe penalties as investigations escalate to federal authorities.
