Kazakh Couple Detained for Cheating at Crown Sydney Casino

Police in New South Wales have arrested a couple from Kazakhstan who allegedly used a hidden camera and earpieces to cheat at the Crown Sydney casino, winning close to AUD 1.2 million, which is roughly $784,000.

Details of the Cheating Scheme

The suspects, identified as 36-year-old Dilnoza Israilova and 44-year-old Alisherykhoja Israilov, arrived in Sydney from Kazakhstan in October. They quickly applied for membership at a casino located in Barangaroo, the city’s central business district. Throughout October and November, they frequented Crown Sydney casino and amassed winnings totaling approximately AUD 1,179,412 (about $771,800) from various table games, attracting suspicion because of their unusual success.

Casino staff noticed that Israilova had a small camera concealed on her Mickey Mouse T-shirt. Authorities allege that the couple used mobile phones to take pictures of gaming tables and received betting advice through discreet earpieces. This technology allegedly allowed them to manipulate game outcomes and defraud the establishment.

Evidence Found and Charges

Police discovered several devices during the investigation, including magnetic probes, batteries, a mobile phone with a special camera attachment, and a tiny custom mirror accessory designed for covert recording. Additional confiscated items from the couple’s accommodation included gambling aids, luxury jewelry, and EUR 2,000 in cash (around $2,300).

The couple has been charged with dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception. They appeared in court where bail was denied. Israilova’s next court date is set for February, while Israilov is scheduled to appear on December 11.

Law Enforcement and Casino Cooperation

New South Wales Police have confirmed no other suspects are involved. Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, head of the Organised Crime Squad, emphasized the close collaboration between law enforcement and casino security to detect and stop illegal activity. This partnership plays a crucial role in maintaining the fairness and integrity of gaming operations, as demonstrated by this case.
