Prakash Raj Questioned by Enforcement Directorate

Well-known Indian actor Prakash Raj has recently been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning allegations related to the promotion of illegal online gaming applications. The actor was called in for questioning amidst these ongoing investigations.

The Investigation and Actor’s Response

Prakash Raj, celebrated for his extensive work across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, English, and Hindi cinema, complied with the summons and appeared at the ED office where he was interrogated for four hours. The inquiry centers on a money laundering case associated with unauthorized online gambling platforms including Junglee Rummy, JeetWin, and Lotus36.

The case began following a complaint submitted in March that named 25 public figures and social media influencers allegedly involved in promoting these illegal platforms. The report alleged that these individuals received payments in exchange for their endorsements. Furthermore, the complaint highlighted the exploitative measures used by these unlicensed companies, which disproportionately hurt lower and middle-income groups.

Prakash Raj Denies Monetary Compensation

Sources indicate that Prakash Raj admitted to working with the aforementioned apps back in 2016, but he strongly denied receiving any payment for his promotions, citing moral objections. He also stated that he has since severed all ties with these platforms.

When questioned about possible political motivations behind the investigation, especially given his previous political involvement, Raj dismissed such claims. He emphasized his cooperation with the authorities as a responsible citizen and denied any form of political targeting or witch-hunting.

“The officers are simply performing their duties. As a citizen, I am obligated to cooperate and provide answers. There is no political agenda or witch-hunting involved,” said Prakash Raj.

Currently, there are no reports that he will be required to appear again for further questioning.

India’s Efforts to Combat Illegal Online Gambling

Meanwhile, the Indian government continues its campaign against illegal gambling to safeguard societal welfare from the detrimental impacts of unregulated platforms. Recent figures reveal that over 1,500 gambling websites have been blocked between 2022 and 2025 as part of these regulatory efforts.

This information was confirmed by Jitin Prasada, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, during discussions regarding the effectiveness of India’s regulatory framework in tackling unauthorized gambling operations.
