28 Arrested in Florida Sting Targeting Illegal Gambling Operations

Undercover Operation Results in Multiple Arrests
On September 3, 2025, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office conducted a successful undercover operation resulting in the arrest of 28 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities. This crackdown aligns with Florida’s ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized gambling, particularly in physical locations.
Confiscation of Illegal Equipment and Cash
The authorities seized a total of 48 illicit gambling machines along with over $100,000 in cash. The coordinated effort, named “Operation Bad Odds,” involved the Florida Gaming Control Commission and the Auburndale Police Department working together to identify and investigate multiple venues operating unlawful gambling setups.
Multiple Venues Identified and Raided
Investigations revealed that the illegal gambling was spread across 11 different locations, each serving as a front for these activities. Law enforcement carried out search warrants at all sites, which led to the arrests. Among those detained, officials noted that at least five were residing in the United States unlawfully.
Strong Stance from Law Enforcement
Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the consequences awaiting those involved, stating that participation in such illegal operations will result in jail time. He also cautioned the public against patronizing these venues, mentioning that the gambling machines used were rigged and did not provide fair chances to players.
“Individuals who use these machines are essentially being scammed,” the sheriff remarked.
Charges and Further Actions
The arrested individuals are facing various charges including operating an illegal gambling establishment, possession of slot machines, and handling money through unauthorized lottery activities. The sheriff’s office has released the mugshots of those arrested as part of the public notification.
