Florida Intensifies Efforts to Combat Illegal Gambling in 2025

Significant Crackdowns on Illegal Gambling Operations
In 2025, the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) stepped up its campaign against unlawful gambling activities, targeting unlicensed gaming establishments across the state. Their persistent enforcement actions have resulted in notable outcomes, underscoring Florida’s commitment to maintaining legal gaming standards.
Record Seizures and Enforcement Achievements
A report released on December 30 highlighted the FGCC’s successful efforts this year. Authorities confiscated over $14 million in illegal gambling proceeds alongside nearly 7,000 unauthorized slot machines. This represents a substantial increase compared to 2024, when just over $7 million and approximately 1,300 slot machines were seized. These figures demonstrate a clear escalation in enforcement activity aimed at curbing illicit gaming.
Collaboration with Law Enforcement and Strengthening Regulations
To bolster its crackdown, the FGCC enhanced cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies by establishing 29 new memorandums of understanding. These partnerships have intensified efforts to identify and dismantle illegal gambling operations. The commission also reiterated the risks posed to consumers, as illicit gaming venues operate without state oversight. This lack of regulation means players cannot trust the fairness or legitimacy of the games offered, nor do they receive typical consumer protections.
Impact of Illegal Gambling and Legal Alternatives
The FGCC emphasized that underground casinos exploit customers and undermine community well-being by diverting revenue away from legitimate channels. Legal slot machines are strictly permitted only in authorized locations, including pari-mutuel facilities throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties and tribal-operated venues. The commission encourages players to verify licensed gambling sites to ensure a safe gaming experience.
Support from Florida Leadership
Executive Director Alana Zimmer expressed gratitude for the backing received from Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature. She highlighted how their support has strengthened state gambling laws and enhanced the commission’s ability to enforce regulations effectively. Zimmer praised the commitment of FGCC law enforcement personnel working tirelessly to eradicate illegal gambling statewide.
Ongoing Legislative Developments
Separately, Florida lawmakers recently introduced House Bill 881, aiming to address issues related to the future of live horse racing. This initiative reflects continued legislative engagement with the state’s gaming landscape.
