Criminal Activities Involving Elderly Casino Guests

In South Africa, a 74-year-old woman named Hannah Naidoo has been convicted for stealing from elderly casino patrons. One significant case involved her taking possessions valued at $19,000 from a senior casino visitor.

Method of Deception and Impact on Victims

Naidoo befriended her targets and drugged their drinks, specifically spiking milkshakes to incapacitate them and commit theft. One victim, aged 92, was found unconscious shortly after being drugged and had to be admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. Though Naidoo was charged with attempted murder, she was ultimately acquitted of that offense.

Her criminal activities date back decades, with law enforcement noting suspicions as early as 1981. Despite her long history, the recent convictions have brought her crimes to light, ensuring she faces substantial prison time.

Another reported incident in May 2025 involved a 66-year-old victim whose drink was drugged, resulting in the theft of $1,100. This individual also experienced adverse health effects due to the drugs administered.

Legal Outcome and Victim Testimonies

Following public exposure of these crimes, more victims have come forward. For example, a 67-year-old woman identified Naidoo as her assailant, having lost jewelry valued at approximately $3,500 during the encounter.

During the trial, Naidoo denied the allegations and claimed that her serious illness, stage 4 cancer, meant she posed no threat and should not be punished. However, these defenses were rejected by the court.

Judge Ashwin Singh sentenced Naidoo to 10 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of her offenses and the harm caused to vulnerable individuals.
