CGA Supervisory Board Resignation Confirmed, LOK Implementation Unaffected

Curaao Gaming Authority Confirms Supervisory Board Resignation
The Curaao Gaming Authority (CGA) has officially announced that its entire supervisory board resigned in September. Despite earlier media speculation, this change will not impact the ongoing launch of the National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK), Curaao’s new gambling licensing system.
Transfer of CGA Oversight to Minister of Justice
Following the supervisory board’s departure, oversight responsibilities were transferred to Minister of Justice Shalten Hato on August 19. This update clarifies previous misinformation suggesting that the Prime Minister had taken over regulatory duties. The CGA reassures stakeholders that regulatory functions and the LOK rollout will proceed without interruption.
CGA Addresses Misleading Reports and Clarifies Continuity
Aideen Shortt, the CGA’s marketing and public relations advisor, criticized recent sensational headlines that inaccurately linked the board’s resignation to delays in the LOK implementation. She emphasized that the resignation is a routine administrative step after governmental changes, and all monitoring, licensing, and enforcement actions continue as usual.
Shortt stated, “The resignation of the Supervisory Board is an administrative process following government transition. CGA supervision, enforcement, and licensing activities continue without interruption. The rollout of the LOK remains unchanged.” Meanwhile, a search for new supervisory board members is underway.
Understanding the Impact of the LOK on Gambling Regulation
The National Ordinance for Games of Chance represents a significant shift in Curaao’s gambling regulation. It replaces the previous master license system with a structure requiring all gaming operators based in Curaao to hold a license directly from the CGA. Operators without proper licensing will be violating regulations and may face penalties under the new law.
