Leadership Changes at Resorts World Las Vegas
Resorts World Las Vegas, a premier resort in Sin City, has announced significant changes in its leadership team. Former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has been named chair of the property’s board, succeeding Jim Murren, who will now serve as chairman emeritus.
Brian Sandoval Takes Over as Chair
Jim Murren, who recently transitioned to the role of chair emeritus, previously led as chair of the board. His tenure included notable contributions, drawing from his extensive experience as former CEO and board chair of MGM Resorts. Additionally, Murren has taken on interim CEO responsibilities at the United Arab Emirates’ General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority.
Brian Sandoval, stepping into the chair role, has been a member of Resorts World’s board since February. His leadership experience and deep ties to Nevada’s political and gaming industries are expected to guide the property’s continued growth.
Sandoval served as Nevada’s 29th governor from 2011 to 2019, making history as the state’s first Hispanic governor. Prior to that, he was Nevada’s Attorney General from 2003 to 2005. His long-standing involvement with gaming regulation includes time spent on the Nevada Gaming Commission from 1999 to 2001. Currently, Sandoval is the 17th president of the University of Nevada, Reno.
Legal Matters Surrounding Resorts World
Resorts World Las Vegas is also facing ongoing legal proceedings. An appeals court recently revived a lawsuit involving a high-stakes gambler, Robert “R.J.” Cipriani. The case alleges that another patron repeatedly harassed Cipriani on the casino floor. The lawsuit will now return to the US District Court for further consideration, with a hearing date yet to be determined.
In response to legal challenges, Resorts World strengthened its legal team in September by appointing Lou Dorn as chief legal officer and corporate secretary, and Elizabeth Tranchina as general counsel. Both are seasoned legal professionals tasked with guiding the company through its ongoing legal landscape.
