Brazilian Court Acts Against Gambling Operator For Payment Failure

The Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories in Brazil has taken action against a gambling operator accused of failing to fulfill financial obligations to at least one player. The legal body is actively seeking the company responsible due to unresolved payment issues raised by a gambler.

Company Failing to Pay Player Summoned by Court

The court has publicly summoned MCR 73 Investimento LTDA, a company accused of owing BRL 169,000 (approximately $30,000) to a gambler. The complaint emerged after the player was unable to withdraw winnings from the slot game Fortune Tiger. Despite multiple complaints from the customer and officials, the company did not respond, prompting the court’s involvement.

At this stage, efforts to contact the operator have been complicated by the absence of valid contact details and a physical address. Judge Recanto das Emas has mandated a 20-day period for the company to comply. Should the firm fail to respond within this timeframe, the court will rule in favor of the plaintiff, handling the matter as a civil case.

This case is part of a broader pattern where bettors in Brazil face challenges in receiving rightful payouts from gambling operators.

Court Orders Payment in Similar Sports Betting Dispute Involving HS do Brasil

In another recent ruling, a judge addressed a dispute involving HS do Brasil, the local operator for the international betting brand bet365. The company was ordered to honor a live bet payout after it had unilaterally altered the odds and reduced the amount paid to a customer.

The bettor had placed a wager of BRL 1,460 on a baseball game between the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays with odds of 1.69. However, after the game concluded, the payment made by the operator was less than the expected BRL 2,467.40 based on the original odds. HS do Brasil justified the reduced payout citing a pricing error.

Judge Andreza Alves de Souza rejected this explanation, emphasizing the protections granted by Brazil’s Consumer Protection Code. The law requires service providers to deliver their services as agreed, placing responsibility on the operator to ensure accurate execution of bets.
