Pauline Hot Takes Leadership Role at French Gambling Regulator ANJ

The French gambling authority, L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has announced a significant change in its leadership team. Pauline Hot has been appointed as the new director general, succeeding Rémi Lataste, who has stepped down from the position.

Profile of Pauline Hot and Her Journey to Director General

Pauline Hot, an alumna of École Normale Supérieure and École Nationale d’Administration, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her career includes important positions such as auditor and master of requests at the Council of State.

Hot joined ANJ earlier this year as the deputy director general. Her promotion to director general reflects both her strong performance and the confidence that the ANJ places in her capabilities to lead the regulator forward.

Rémi Lataste’s Departure and Legacy

Rémi Lataste, the former director general, has moved on to a comparable leadership role at Campus Condorcet. Reflecting on his five-year tenure at ANJ, Lataste praised the regulator’s numerous accomplishments and described his time as a “remarkable collective journey.”

He highlighted ANJ’s ongoing dedication to protecting minors from gambling-related harm, curbing excessive gambling, cracking down on illegal operators, and modernizing the market. Lataste emphasized that these successes were a result of the exceptional team working behind the scenes.

“A huge thank you to everyone – both within ANJ and among our institutional partners – who made these last five years so fulfilling and productive.”

ANJ’s Latest Progress Report Reflects Market Developments

In line with its commitment to transparency, ANJ recently released its latest activity report, reviewing the state of the French gambling market five years after major reforms were implemented.

The report highlights substantial improvements in regulatory compliance. Licensees have notably improved adherence to anti-money laundering protocols and measures to prevent excessive gambling, contributing to a healthier market environment.

However, the report also indicates a rise in the number of self-excluded players, suggesting increased awareness and use of self-exclusion options but also an uptick in individuals vulnerable to problem gambling.
