PointsBet Holdings, a prominent Australian betting firm, has announced that Andrew Catterall will take over as the new chief executive officer, succeeding Sam Swanell. Catterall is currently the CEO of PointsBet Australia and brings a wealth of experience to the group CEO role.

Andrew Catterall’s Leadership Background

Catterall is set to officially assume his new responsibilities starting February 1, 2026, pending the usual regulatory and licensing approvals. He will take over from Sam Swanell, who will assist during the transition before moving into an advisory position within the company. Swanell will also continue serving as an executive director on the board.

With over two decades of experience in senior leadership roles spanning gaming, media, sports, and digital industries, Catterall has been instrumental in enhancing PointsBet’s Australian operations. His efforts have significantly upgraded the company’s product offerings and strengthened its marketing strategies.

Prior to his tenure at PointsBet, which began in 2022, Catterall was the CEO of Racing.com, where he achieved notable growth in audience reach, digital engagement, and commercial metrics. His previous roles include senior executive positions with AFL, Racing Victoria, and the Boston Consulting Group.

Board’s Confidence in Andrew Catterall

PointsBet Chairman Brett Paton expressed gratitude to Sam Swanell for his years of leadership and dedication to driving the company’s growth and strategic initiatives. He acknowledged Swanell’s ongoing value in an advisory role and his continued presence on the board.

“Sam has led PointsBet through all phases of its expansion and development. His ongoing advisory and board involvement will continue to benefit the business through his valuable insight and experience,” Paton stated.

Paton also warmly welcomed Catterall as the new CEO, praising his successful leadership of the Australian operations and expressing strong confidence in his ability to steer the entire group forward.

“The Board congratulates Andrew on his appointment and looks forward to collaborating closely with him as he guides PointsBet into the future,” Paton added.

This leadership change follows the recent acquisition of PointsBet by MIXI and the appointment of several new board members, marking a new chapter for the company’s growth and development.
