Alberta’s iGaming Market to Launch on July 13

The government of Alberta has officially announced that its online gaming market will go live on July 13. Many industry watchers are excited to see if Alberta’s online gaming sector will match the success experienced by Ontario’s established iGaming industry.
Alberta Sets the Stage for Online Gaming
Dale Nally, Alberta’s Minister responsible for Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, informed key gaming stakeholders that the province’s iGaming platform is scheduled to launch on July 13. This announcement marks a significant milestone in Alberta’s digital gaming plans by providing a clear and confirmed start date.
This news aligns with previous updates from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), which had also indicated a July launch window for iGaming. According to Nally, this timeframe allows the province sufficient opportunity to finalize all remaining preparations before the launch.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation is currently working to complete agreements with operators, with finalized contracts expected to be published in April. Optimism remains high among officials about the potential success and growth of iGaming in Alberta.
Unlicensed Operators Must Withdraw by Launch Date
Alberta aims to follow Ontario’s lead, where online gaming has seen rapid growth and widespread adoption since its introduction. The Ontario model demonstrates the opportunities that regulated iGaming can bring, including increased revenue and a reduction in illegal gambling activities.
To ensure a smooth transition, the AGLC has warned that any unlicensed operators must cease their activities within the province by July 13. However, extensions of up to three months may be granted to unlicensed entities that show cooperation with regulatory authorities.
In related developments, VICI Properties has agreed to acquire the real estate assets of three casino venues in Alberta, signaling continued investment and expansion in the region’s gambling infrastructure.
