AGA Reports Strong Public Backing for Regulated Gambling

Record Player Participation Sets New High
The American Gaming Association (AGA) recently revealed that an unprecedented number of Americans engaged in legally regulated gambling in 2025. This surge is attributed to industry expansion, its significant economic impact, and a steadfast dedication to responsible gaming practices.
According to the AGA’s annual survey, casino visits hit an all-time high, legal sports betting enjoys widespread support across the United States, and the gambling industry is recognized for its responsible conduct. In 2024, over half of Americans—134 million people—visited casinos, marking the first time visitation surpassed the 50% threshold.
Moreover, approximately 75% of U.S. residents believe that having legal casinos in their states brings benefits, including job creation, economic stimulation, boosting local businesses, and promoting tourism.
Strong Public Support for Legal Sports Betting
Interest in regulated sports betting continues to grow as more states establish their own legal markets. Support stands at about 74%, reflecting strong bipartisan approval among Americans. Additionally, 78% of the population views sports betting primarily as a recreational activity.
Preference for Licensed Gambling Platforms
The growth of the regulated market coincides with the industry’s efforts to stay compliant and with regulators’ focus on targeting illegal offshore operators. Data from the AGA shows that the majority of American online gamblers favor licensed platforms, with 93% of sports bettors and 90% of online gamblers valuing legality when choosing where to play.
Nonetheless, challenges remain, as around 40% of online gamblers struggle to distinguish legal platforms from illegal ones. Most gamblers in states with legal betting options believe that the regulated industry should better promote its services and encourage players to use authorized platforms.
Recognition of Responsible Gambling Measures
Many players acknowledge and appreciate the gambling industry’s efforts toward safer gaming. About 77% of traditional casino visitors believe in the effectiveness of responsible gambling programs, while 88% of sports bettors express confidence in player protection initiatives within their sector.
Statement from AGA Leadership
Bill Miller, president and CEO of the AGA, highlighted that these findings demonstrate a robust foundation for gaming in the U.S. and solid consumer trust in regulated local markets.
He emphasized the association’s commitment to advancing this positive momentum by expanding the legal market, enhancing responsibility measures, and delivering benefits to both players and communities.
Recently, the AGA hosted a webinar to discuss developments and innovations in responsible gaming across the nation.
