ACMA Increases Measures Against Unlawful Gambling Sites

ACMA Intensifies Efforts to Combat Illegal Gambling
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) continues its commitment to enforcing the country’s gambling regulations established under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. Recently, ACMA has targeted five online casino platforms by implementing blocks through Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as a means to restrict access to these unauthorized sites.
Challenges with Blocking Offshore Gambling Sites
Although blocking websites via ISPs has been a primary tactic for ACMA to limit offshore gambling operations, this method faces significant hurdles. Many of the flagged gambling platforms are prepared for such actions, often redirecting users to alternative mirror sites, which complicates enforcement efforts.
Recent Targets in ACMA’s Crackdown
The newest websites subjected to these restrictions include Slot Lounge, PokiesPro, Spinit, Betzillo, and FastSpin99. These sites add to an extensive list of over 1,300 illegal betting websites and affiliates that have been banned since November 2019. Despite the ease with which these sites can establish mirror domains, ACMA remains persistent in its pursuit of regulatory compliance.
Protecting Australian Consumers
ACMA has issued warnings encouraging Australian players to be cautious about where they place their bets. The regulator emphasizes that online gambling platforms not licensed in Australia operate outside the law and are highly likely to be fraudulent. This warning aims to safeguard consumers from the risks associated with unregulated gambling sites.
Reporting and Risks Associated with Illegal Gambling
Consumers who encounter unauthorized gambling websites are urged to report them through ACMA’s automated complaint system. The regulator highlights potential dangers for users engaging with these illegal platforms, including the risk of personal and financial information theft and the possibility of losing funds deposited on offshore gambling websites.
