Monarchs Forward Walker Out For Season With Knee Injury

POSTED: 7:51 pm EDT May 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - Sacramento Monarchs forward DeMya Walker will miss the upcoming season due to a fractured patella in her right knee. She will have surgery on Friday.

This marks the second straight season Walker has suffered a devastating injury. She played in just five games last season before a similar injury.

The latest injury occurred on Sunday, while Walker was playing with her team, Nadezhda, located in Orenburg, Russia.

Through eight WNBA seasons, Walker has played in 200 games and averaged 8.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

"This is a hard blow for DeMya, as hard as she worked at her rehabilitation during the offseason," said Monarchs general manager John Whisenant. "It's also hard news for the franchise, but we can deal with it. This will be an opportunity for the other posts on our roster to step up and especially for the young ones to strut their stuff."
