Angie Lau

Angie Lau is the 5 On Your Side Consumer Specialist on NewsChannel5.

Angie is an award-winning journalist whose passion for investigative reporting has earned her recognition. This year, The Ohio Society of Professional Journalists awarded Angie for her excellence. Angie’s investigative reports on expired foods sold in area stores earned her Ohio SPJ 2006 award for Best Consumer Reporting. Angie was also awarded Ohio Excellence in Journalism for In-Depth Reporting and Investigative Reporting. Angie also won Ohio SPJ award for Best Government Coverage in 2005.

She has reported on the major stories in northeast Ohio -- like the shooting and hostage situation at Case Western in 2003 and the battle for Ohio in the 2004 election.

Her skills as a political reporter were a big part of NewsChannel5's coverage of one of the most dramatic elections in American history. She offered insight into why Ohio was the battleground state, and helped viewers by providing context and perspective.

Her other investigative pieces have sparked action and change. Her story on "Carbon Monoxide Treated Meats" compelled one major grocery chain to stop the practice and cease selling meat products treated with carbon monoxide.

Angie came to WEWS in 2000 from Toronto, Canada. Angie was born in Hong Kong and was raised just outside Toronto. Her parents still live there and she visits often.

She speaks Cantonese and studied French in Quebec. She is married and loves to cook and travel extensively with her husband.

Angie says Cleveland is a great city because of its diversity. She enjoys sharing her time and efforts for many great causes in the community, often hosting and speaking at fundraising events and functions. The City of Cleveland recently presented Angie with an Asian Leadership Award for Outstanding Service.
