Sheffield Village Teachers Avoid Strike

POSTED: 7:44 am EDT September 30, 2009

Sheffield Village teachers approved a tentative contract at about midnight Wednesday.

That means there will be classes today.

The Chronicle Telegram reported that the deal will be ratified at a later date.

Meanwhile, parents were abuzz over a letter sent home with the children on Tuesday, saying substitute teachers were scabs.

It also warned that students may not be safe with a temporary staff.

Several parents didn't appreciate what he called a scare tactic.

The teachers union said the letter was meant to be informative.
