BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns owner is backing his team and addressing several rumors. NewsChannel5 sports director Andy Baskin said that Randy Lerner sat down with the media for an hour Tuesday at the Browns facility in Berea. No cameras were allowed. He said the Browns organization is committed to winning and maximizing talent. Lerner, 46, said this is his hometown team and when he walks out of a game at 4 p.m., he is as sickened as any other fan. Lerner has no plans to sell the team, which he inherited following his father's death in 2002. He is a fan and said it is a privilege to own the Browns. He explained that the team doesn't need to go back to square one. They have many talented players. He also said he has not had any discussions with former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher to come to Cleveland. Any personnel issues with the team and the future of coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Phil Savage would not happen until January. The two are under fire with the Browns at 4-7 and out of the playoff picture one year after winning 10 games and sending six players to the Pro Bowl. Lerner wanted to make sure fans knew that he is not selling the team to the Under Armour Company.Lerner is letting his people do the job they were hired to do. However, he said he might be more hands on in the future and be more visible where the team is concerned.
