ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - All lanes of Interstate 90 are open in Rocky river. Lanes were closed due to a 12 inch water main break that happened early Saturday. The water main break is located underneath Valley View Drive bridge over I-90 near Hilliard Rd.
A portion of the water main broke causing several gallons of water to flow onto the highway. Cleveland water crews were able to isolate the main and turn the water off.
The break caused traffic headaches from some drivers.
The main reportedly broke just before 1 p.m. on I -90 EB underneath the Hilliard Bridge, according to a Cleveland Water Department spokesperson.
When NewsChannel5 arrived at the scene, water was shooting into the air.
ODOT reports that I-90 EB is shut down at Hilliard Road to Detroit Road and one lane of I-90 WB is open due to the water main break. Most drivers have been stalled in traffic or just inching along due to the back-up.
ODOT are urging drivers to use alternate routes or get off at the Detroit Road exit.
A Cleveland water spokesperson said crews are currently working to turn the water off.
Cleveland water, Cleveland Public Power and ODOT crews are working to remove the remaining pipe to ensure the area is safe.
