WINTER BLOG: Snow updates, photos & videos from around Northeast Ohio

With the first snowfall of the season, viewers from around Northeast Ohio are sharing photos and videos of the scene where they live.

4:41 p.m. - 37,199 FirstEnergy customers in Northeast Ohio are without power.

4:38 p.m. - Lyndhurst has opened an emergency warming center at its community center at 1341 Parkview Drive until 9 p.m. for residents who need it. Warm drinks and light snacks will be available. The Red Cross will also be on hand.

4:35 p.m. - South Euclid currently has 5,214 customers without power, the police department reports.

4:06 p.m. - The National Weather Service issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning until noon on Friday for Cuyahoga and Geuaga counties. Some spots could get up to a total of 6" of snow. 

2:45 pm - Due to the power failure in Mayfield Heights, the Ross C. DeJohn Community Center is open as a warming shelter. The center is located at 6306 Marsol Ave. Questions can me answered at 440-442-1214.

2:42 pm - Solon Community Center Operations limited due to power outage. The Community Center is operating as an emergency shelter. It will remain open until the emergency expires. The fitness center and swimming pool are closed.

2 pm - Reports of thunder snow, lightning and heavy squalls in Mayfield Heights and Beachwood areas.

1:30 pm - Chardon Middle and High School students are being dismissed at 2:15 pm today. This early dismissal for grades 6-12 will allow adequate time for our bus drivers to deal with today's road conditions and be back in time for the regularly scheduled elementary school bus runs.
In addition, tonight's Band Concert at Chardon High School is cancelled.

12:14 pm - RTA reports the Green Line is back in service after some buses had to serve it it this morning as trees were down in several areas along the tracks. Park and rides from the west were diverted from the highway due to accidents, causing delays using surface roads.

11:43 am - Hillcrest Hospital has been using back-up generators for power for the past two hours, a hospital spokesperson says.

11:24 am - More than 50 pictures added to our PHOTO GALLERY for the season's first snowfall.

11:18 am - The number of power outages has dropped to 47,000 as FirstEnergy crews restore service.

11:06 am - A blown power transformer forces Mayfield High School officials to let classes out early. No injuries have been reported.

10:34 am - Tree falls on Chardon Rd (Geauga) house, causing electricity to pop inside, Geauga Sherriff's Office tweets .

10:28 am - FirstEnergy reports almost 50,000 people without power in Northeast Ohio. The trouble is a combination of wet, heavy snow and trees that still have many of their leaves.

10:27 am - "Chardon Methodist is now open as a warming center for persons who have a need." - Geauga Co. Sheriff's Office Twitter account.

10:05 am - Paul Kiska shares the aftermath of "another snow squall sweeping across Mayfield Road where ramps to 217 are slippery."

9:56 am - 30 school closings and delays

9:25 am - A Chardon school bus crashed with 20 students onboard. It was on its way to Munson Elementary when it was rear-ended on Wison Mills Road. 

9:15 am - WARNING: Lake Effect Snow Warning issued for Geauga Co. until 01:00 PM Thursday, per Mark Johnson

9:03 am - FORECAST: Lake-effect snow advisory until 11am for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Portage and Trumbull counties.
