BLOG: Closings, traffic & weather updates for Cleveland winter's second Arctic chill

Monday through Wednesday will bring subzero temperatures with wind chills plummeting into double-digits below zero.

Government offices, schools and businesses are closing, roads are slick with salt shortages being reported around the area and the cold threatens the health of our residents.

TUESDAY, JAN. 28

9:20 a.m. - Hopkins is seeing a 30% reduction in flights today (both inbound and outbound).  Mostly the smaller planes—she said the bigger ones are still running.

8:01 a.m. - The city of Cleveland's recreation centers open until 8 p.m. to act as warming centers.

7:51 a.m. - All Cuyahoga County Public Library Branches will be CLOSED Tuesday, January 28th due to extremely cold temperatures.

6:55 a.m. - 53 canceled flights through 9:56 a.m. at Cleveland Hopkins Airport.

6:32 a.m. - The city of Cleveland announces its emergency snow ban will end at 8 a.m.

5:40 a.m. - Per RTA, red line trains eastbound and westbound are currently on a 15 min delay.

5:38 a.m. - Six flights have been canceled at Akron-Canton, according to their website --three arrivals and departures each.

5:31 a.m. - 41 flights have been canceled and 1 delayed, according to the Cleveland Hopkins website . That's affecting arrivals and departures almost evenly through 8:17 a.m. 

MONDAY, JAN. 27

5:57 p.m. Cuyahoga County Board of Elections will close Tuesday, Jan. 28.

5:51 p.m. Lorain County Commissioners close administration building Tuesday, Jan. 28. Employees of 24-hour-operation department (9-1-1, Golden Acres Nursing Facility, Charles Berry Brodge and Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security) to report as usual.

4:28 p.m. Cleveland Municipal Court will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28. Civil case parties will be sent a letter notifying them of their rescheduled hearings. Housing Court cases with Judge Raymond L. Pianka should call the court at 216-664-4988 Wednesday to reschedule.

The Clerk of Courts will be closed except the third-floor window where tickets and bonds may be paid. The One-Stop Impound and Payment Center at 3040 Quigley Road — where payments can be made for parking, photo enforcement and trash collection tickets — will be open as usual.

5:42 p.m. The Cleveland Metroparks, including the zoo and the rainforest - will be CLOSED Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to freezing temperatures. Roads and parkways will remain open.

5:34 p.m. Cleveland's warming centers will be open through 8 p.m. Monday, then from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Click here for a list of the city's warming centers.

4 p.m. Cuyahoga County has announced that their offices will CLOSE Tuesday, Jan. 28. Cuyahoga County's Council meetings will continue as scheduled.

3:05 p.m. Cities in Northeast Ohio report salt shortages and limit their use to main roads, intersections and hills. Read more.

11:20 a.m. - Akron Municipal Court  will close Tuesday, January 28 because of the extremely low temperatures. All hearings originally scheduled for Tuesday will be rescheduled.
