Winter 2015-16 snowfall comes in below normal across much of Northern Ohio.
Despite the fact that Northern Ohio saw measurable snow just two weeks ago, it is now safe to close the books on snowfall for the season. That's right. No more flakes until next fall or winter.
As expected, much of Northern Ohio saw well below normal snow fall. Notice the snowfall map below, prepared by the Cleveland National Weather Service.
Only the snowbelt areas of Geauga, Lake & Ashtabula saw snowfall close to normal. Chardon, for instance, measured 102 inches of snow fall this past winter. Average snows for the Central Geauga County City are 108 inches. So, it was close...
Cleveland's snow total was 32.8 inches. That's a whopping 35.4 inches BELOW the 30-year average of 68.2 inches. About 48% of normal....
But, our lack of snow was well predicted. Strong El Ninos have, in the past, cut our local snowfall by up to 50 percent. This past Winter's strong El Nino lived up to the hype.
Akron & Canton's snowfall finished 30.2 inches. That's 17 inches below the 30 year average or about 64% of normal.
Mansfield's Lahm Airport shoveled 27.6 inches of snow this past winter. Average snowfall for the airport is 48.3 inches. That's a mere 57% of normal.
