BRECKSVILLE, Ohio - Meteorologist Jason Nicholas says the toughest golf hole in the Cleveland Metroparks is a par 3.
We're entering the summer golf season here in northern Ohio and after a cool and wet spring, golfers are eager to get out on the links.
The Cleveland Metroparks boasts eight different golf courses, each varying in challenge, from the easiest to the toughest. Perhaps the most challenging is Sleepy Hollow in Brecksville. The course was voted the top municipal course in the state in 2013 by Golfweek Magazine.
And if you're looking for the ultimate challenge, look no further than the 2nd hole, a par 3. Many folks in the area say it's the toughest hole not only in the Metroparks, but throughout northern Ohio.
Sleepy Hollow golf pro John Fiander says the length makes the second very tough. "It can measure 235 yards from the middle tees, but, if the flag is in the back, and you're playing the tips, it can play up to 260 yards, that's like a par 4."
Add to that, trouble. The 2nd hole has a lateral hazard along the right, as well as sand traps short and right. The long green is also an added challenge.
"The green has a tier in it in the middle, and a rise of about 3 feet, so to get your ball from the front to the back, almost requires a full shoulder turn," Fiander says.
So, the ultimate challenge awaits. The toughest hole in the Metroparks system is #2 at Sleepy Hollow.
Sleepy Hollow is located on Route 21 in Brecksville.
