Flakes were flying all across Northern Ohio on Sunday, May 15, 2016. From Streetsboro to Strongsville. From Akron to Ashtabula. From  Canton to Chesterland.

A very cold Arctic air mass slid south across the Great Lakes on Saturday. By Sunday morning, the air just above the surface was below freezing, meaning any precipitation that formed would form as snow and ice pellets.

The cold arctic air moving southeast over a warmer Lake Erie stirred up lake effect rain and snow showers. These started around sunrise Sunday and continued into early afternoon.

Jay Rust from Newbury, Geauga Co. finds some humor in Sunday morning's snowfall (Above).

The 15,000 runners in town for the Cleveland Marathon were stung by fast-falling snow and ice pellets. Most areas of Northern Ohio saw bursts of fast melting snow with no accumulation. But, areas along I-271 in Eastern Cuyahoga and western portions of Geauga County saw 1 to 2 inches of slushy accumulation by mid morning. Travelers on I-271 were greeted with slick roads and low visibilities through the morning hours (BELOW).

That snow quickly melting during the afternoon. Only a trace of snow was measured at Cleveland Hopkins Airport and the Akron/Canton Regional Airport.

The snow was wet and slushy as it piled up in Eastern Geauga County (ABOVE). Temperatures for the day were stuck in between 45 & 50 degrees... a full 20 to 25 degrees BELOW average! What a raw day it was!
