Snow is not a stranger to Northern Ohio in May.
It is certainly NOT as common as in, say, February or March. But, flakes do fly, as we witnessed last Sunday, May 15!
If you look back at previous history, the snowiest May ever in Cleveland occurred back in 1974. 2.1 inches of snow fell that year. Most of that 2 inches was measured on May 6. One-tenth of an inch fell the next day on May 7. This happens to be the latest MEASURABLE snow at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Way back when the Weather Bureau was located in Downtown Cleveland, .2 inches of snow fell on May 10, 1907, marking the latest measurable snow downtown.

3) 1902 = .6"
4) 1973 = .6"
5) 1909 = .4"
6) 1906 = .1"
7) 1908 = .1"

Of course, please note: Snow has fallen LATER than than the Official Dates at the National Weather Service. In fact, one Facebook friend mentioned snow in Ashland County on May 28 a few decades ago.
For Akron and Canton, the year was 1966. From May 10-16, bitterly cold air invaded the region. During that time, the Akron/Canton Regional Airport recording 3.2 inches of snow. In 1989, the airport measured 1.5 inches of snow. And in 1963, .4 inches fell during the month of May.
The snow is done. So, let's close this chapter on May snowfall. I didn't like how it ended! Haha.
