Level 1 snow emergency issued for Portage, Medina counties, parking bans in place

Whiteout conditions reported

CLEVELAND - Roads are quickly becoming snow-covered and slippery across northeast Ohio.

These alerts have been issued as a result of the snow:
- Portage County: Level 1 emergency
- Medina County: Level 1 emergency
- Cuyahoga Falls: Citywide parking ban
- Brook Park: Citywide parking ban

The level 1 emergency means roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy; so drive carefully.

RTA is reporting delays of 15 minutes for all lines because of weather.

Motorists are only able to go about 10 to 20 mph on local highways, including the Shoreway and Interstate 77.

Bob Jones reported the there are 51 plows treating primary roads in Akron. Traffic on Interstates 77 and 76 is slow. Ramps are very snowy.

In Mentor, Videographer Steve Cummings said conditions are snowy and blustery. Motorists are experiencing whiteout conditions.

Videographer Gary Abrahamsen said he was driving on downtown streets near City Hall. Roads are covered with snow. Driving is dicey, especially when switching lanes. He said to be careful.

Multimedia journalist Tracy Carloss said its snowing hard downtown around the Q. Police are at intersections to help with the traffic congestion.

Visibility is limited and local highways.
