As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, Ohio is participating in a statewide tornado drill

As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the state of Ohio is participating in a statewide tornado drill and a test on the Emergency Alert Systems (EAS) on Wednesday, March 22, at 9:50 a.m.

At this time, the state will test its outside warning sirens. Schools, businesses, and households are encouraged to perform a mock tornado drill and an emergency exit plan.

It's important to know the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch. A tornado warning is issued when a tornado is imminent or occurring. A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. 

During tornado drills or actual tornado warnings, remember to DUCK:

D – Go DOWN to the lowest level, stay away from windows

U – Get UNDER something (such as a basement staircase or heavy table or desk

C – COVER your head 

K – KEEP in shelter until the storm has passed
