Forecast: Colder temperatures for New Year's Day

9:00 pm Update: Skies are mostly cloudy across the area now. A few lake effect flurries continue to fall across Greater Cleveland and points east. Flurries will continue this evening in a few spots down-wind of Lake Erie. Temperatures will fall slowly into the teens by 11pm. Bundle up!

Low temperatures tonight will fall into the middle teens in most spots. A few areas west of Interstate 71 where the skies clear, could see temperatures drop into the single digits! Areas in the snow belt where clouds and flurries hang on will see lows hover near 20 degrees tonight.

Wednesday looks dry with the exception of a few left over snow flakes during the morning commute. Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the middle 20s.

The next weak cold front will arrive on Thursday. Skies will be cloudy with just a few light snow showers expected. Accumulations should remain below 1-inch in most spots. High temperatures will climb into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Dry air quickly returns on Friday. Very cold air will remain in place thru the day. Highs will struggle into the lower and middle 20s during the day. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy.

Morning Update: We already hit our high for the day at midnight. Temperatures will continue to fall through the 20s this afternoon as colder air flows across the Great Lakes. I can't rule out a few snow showers east of Cleveland this afternoon. Accumulations will be light. Otherwise look for mainly cloudy skies. As kids go back to school tomorrow, temperatures will be in the teens!
Scattered snow showers are passing through Northeast Ohio this morning. If you see any snow, it will be very light and non-disruptive. Morning temperatures are near 30 degrees.

A few snow showers will continue this afternoon, especially east of Cleveland. Otherwise look for mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will fall to the lower 20s by evening.

With partial clearing overnight, temperatures will drop to the mid-teens. If skies stay clear for a few hours, temperatures may drop to the lower teens away from the lake. Single digits are even possible in isolated locations!

Wednesday will be dry and partly cloudy. Even with sunshine, temperatures will be chilly, in the mid-20s.

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes Thursday evening, triggering a chance of light snow showers through early Friday.

Another chance of light snow comes in the forecast Sunday. Temperatures gradually warm to the 30s by the weekend.
