Forecast: Rain tonight, cooler for the weekend

CLEVELAND - 10:45 pm Update: Low pressure over the Dakota's now will slide southeast into Ohio tonight. Clouds will thicken up this evening with rain showers arriving after midnight. Isolated thunder is also possible. Lows will bottom out in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

The low moves by quickly tonight with just a few showers lingering during the morning commute on Thursday. Skies will remain mostly cloudy through the day with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Temperatures will begin to drop off by late afternoon as cooler air moves in. The cooler air could stir up a brief lake-effect rain shower east of Cleveland during the mid to late afternoon hours. Those will not be widespread.

Friday looks dry and chilly as Canadian high pressure noses south into the region. I would expect a cloud/sun mix to start the weekend with highs below normal again: in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Low pressure will slide east across Southern Ohio on Saturday. The best chance for rain through the day will be along and south of the Interstate 76/Route 224 corridor. Some areas from Cleveland through Chardon, and Andover may see very little rain at all. Other cities, such as Mansfield, Canton & Youngstown, may get soaked for much of the day. Temperatures for everyone will be well below normal. We'll only see highs in the 40 to 45 degree range.

Sunday will be dry, but continued chilly. High temperatures between 45 & 50.

We've been watching a storm system for the weekend, but the latest computer models keep the track of low pressure south of our area. Although scattered showers are still in the forecast Saturday, it looks like most of the rain will miss us Sunday. Stay tuned! Weekend temperatures will be near 50 degrees.
