COLUMBUS, Posted 12:29 p.m. September 28, 1998 --Gold and rare coins, silver bars, stock certificates and more will be auctioned off Oct. 1.
More than 10,000 items will be auctioned off by The Ohio Department of Unclaimed Funds. Items were recovered from unclaimed safety deposit boxes collected since 1968.
According to the Unclaimed Funds Department, every year more than 100,000 people and organizations lose track of moneys, rights to moneys, and intangible property in Ohio. Those accounts are then turned over to the state.
Common sources of unclaimed funds include: dormant savings and checking accounts, unpaid insurance policies, wages or commissions, securities, underlying shares of stock, undelivered and uncashed stock dividends, unreturned rent and utility deposits, credit balances, forgotten layaway deposits, uncashed checks, credit memos, refunds and intangible contents of safe deposit boxes.
The auction will take place at the Commerce Customer Service Center at 6006 Tussing Road in Columbus. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Training Room. Cash or approved check with proper ID is required. All sales are final. If all items are not sold, the auction will reconvene Oct. 2.
