NewsChannel5 will launch "5 On Your Side Food Bank Fridays" Nov. 21 to help feed hungry families throughout Northeast Ohio. This community effort features a phone bank in NewsChannel5's studios from Noon until 6:30 p.m. each Friday through Dec. 19.

"These tough economic times mean more northeast Ohio families are turning to food pantries this year," said Jill Manuel, NewsChannel5's News Director. "Our station is eager to provide a fundraising vehicle for these important foodbanks. It's what On Your Side is all about, and our station is ready to do what it can to help."

Money raised through "5 On Your Side Food Bank Fridays" will help food banks in Cleveland, Akron, Lorain and Youngstown. Donations from viewers will go to each donor's local food bank.

"We are so thrilled to have NewsChannel5's help getting the word out about the community’s increasing need for food. In today's economy, more and more people are turning to local hunger centers for assistance," said Anne Goodman, Cleveland Foodbank executive director. "Every dollar contributed through the NewsChannel5 phone bank will provide enough nutritious food for four meals."

The "5 On Your Side Food Bank Fridays" phone numbers are 216-578-0300 and 216-578-0301.

You can also make donations online.

Volunteers from the Cleveland Foodbank will be taking calls and donations from noon until 7 p.m. beginning this Friday.
