A man accused in the beating of a woman in Parma appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Todd A. Torok's bond was set at $500,000 during a video arraignment although the prosecutors asked for a $1 million bond.

Police said he beat Chevonne Ecclestone in the head with a 15-to-20-pound rock while she was walking her dog along an access road to Camp Corde on Ridgewood Drive.

Ecclestone, 52, is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center. Officials said she is in an induced coma.

Police said Torok was seen at the park as early as 9:30 a.m. They said he identified himself as a police officer and asked people for a ride. He also said that he had a gun.
