Westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike closed near Pittsburgh

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - Westbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is being detoured near Pittsburgh because of a tractor-trailer crash involving a fuel spill.

State police have yet to release details on the crash about 5 a.m. Thursday between the Monroeville and Allegheny Valley exits.

But turnpike officials have been detouring westbound traffic off the roughly 10-mile stretch of the turnpike where the crash occurred. Motorists are advised the alternate route around the crash site will take about 90 minutes and spillover traffic onto Interstate 376 east of Pittsburgh has created thicker-than-normal morning rush hour traffic.

Hazardous materials crews are on the scene because some fuel spilled from the truck. It was not immediately clear how long it will take crews to clear the turnpike.
