Watermelon spill in I-10 tunnel in Phoenix causes major traffic backup

PHOENIX - A watermelon spill on Interstate 10 in Phoenix that caused major delays Thursday afternoon has been cleaned up, according to officials.

Around 1:30 p.m. a produce truck crashed into a wall inside the Deck Park Tunnel, covering the westbound lanes in watermelon and other fruits, Arizona Department of Transportation officials said.

All lanes were closed shortly after 2 p.m. at 7th Street with traffic backed up as far as State Route 143 at one point.

All closures were lifted around 9 p.m
