CLEVELAND - Orange barrel season may be several months away, but ODOT is warning drivers about new road construction projects that will impact the commute around greater Cleveland.
In the spring of 2014, ODOT will begin new work on the span of I-77 between I-480 and Grant Avenue to build a new deck.
Drivers who travel this route have already noticed the speed limit in the area reduced from 60 to 50 miles per hour as some work has begun.
Underneath the bridge, preparations are underway for the early April start of a lengthy project.
"They're going to be replacing that bridge deck over the next three years," said ODOT public information officer Amanda McFarland. "Over the next three years, the project is currently scheduled for 2014, 15 and 16, people are going to see some major work in the area, a lot of changes. We'll have the crossover configuration so we can maintain the current number of lanes while we're doing this project."
Furthermore, a couples of on and off ramps to I-77 will close next summer.
The ramp from 77 South to 480 West will close, as will the ramp from 480 East to 77 North; while the ramp from 480 West to 77 North will be reduced to one lane.
