GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A deadly accident shut down several lanes of Interstate 480 westbound Friday morning near the Broadway Avenue exit.

A horrific crash took the live of one man Friday morning.

NewsChannel5 reports that, according to police, one person is dead after two vehicles collided.

A witness apparently saw a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo drive down the eastbound side of the freeway, go across the median into incoming traffic, smash head-on into a Buick, go over the embankment and burst into flames.

The man in the SUV was killed instantly, according to officials.

The driver of the Buick was taken by Lifeflight to an area hospital. His condition is unknown, but officials said that his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

I-480 has been reopened, and traffic was flowing at a normal pace by noon.

Investigators are now trying to determine what caused the SUV driver to cross into the opposite lane.
