A third case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcusaureus, or MRSA, has been reported in Mentor schools, according to the schools' Web site.

Mentor Public Schools received said it received notification Wednesday morning that a student at Shore Middle School had contracted the infection.

School officials are reassuring parents that this is not a major outbreak of the antibiotic resistant staph infection. They said each case appears to be isolated.

Mentor High School took precautionary measures this week, including the additional sanitizing of athletic facilities, encouraging students to take home clothes and equipment for regular washing and promoting hand washing.

"We just wanna reassure students we're doing everything we can to prevent further spread and we believe we can do that very well," said principal Joe Spiccia.

The second high school student diagnosed hadn't been in school since Sept. 17 and is responding well to treatment.
