Stosur, Czink Pull Off Upsets In First Round At Los Angeles

(Sports Network) - Australian Samantha Stosur upset 12th- seeded Shahar Peer 6-1, 6-1 and Hungarian Melinda Czink defeated Virginie Razzano, the 13th seed from France, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the East West Bank Classic on Monday.

Austrian Sybille Bammer, the 14th seed, disposed of American Ahsha Rolle 6-0, 6-4, while No. 16 Sania Mirza, hailing from India, beat Czech Eva Hrdinova 6-3, 6-4.

Olga Govortsova beat fellow Belarussian Darya Kustova 6-3, 6-4. American Coco Vandeweghe fell 6-3, 6-3 at the hands of Pole Marta Domachowska. Yung-Jan Chan, from Taipei, made short work of Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai, 6-1, 6-4.

American Jill Craybas beat London native Anne Keothavong 6-3, 6-2 and Bethanie Mattek beat Abigail Spears 6-2, 6-4 in the battle of the Americans.

Austrian Tamira Paszek won 6-4, 6-2 over Aiko Nakamura of Japan, while Ukrainian Olga Savchuk took down Argentinean Gisela Dulko 6-4, 6-3.

Czech Petra Kvitova won 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 over Russian Alisa Kleybanova in the only three-setter on the day.
