Rain Wreaks Havoc In Bad Gastein

POSTED: 1:22 pm EDT July 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - Rain forced the suspension of one match and the postponement of six other second-rounders Thursday at the $175,000 Gastein Ladies tennis event.

Thursday's lone result saw 21-year-old Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr secure a berth in her first-ever WTA Tour quarterfinal with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Paraguay's Rossana De Los Rios at this clay-court tournament.

Seventh-seeded Czech Iveta Benesova was tied with Russian Galina Voskoboeva 6-4, 4-6, 1-1 when play was called for the day.

Top-seeded Hungarian Agnes Szavay, three other seeded women, and 2007 Bad Gastein runner-up Yvonne Meusburger were all washed out on Day 4. The Austrian Meusburger lost to Italian Francesca Schiavone in last year's finale here.

The winner of this event will collect $28,000.
