Rain Wipes Out Play In Bad Gastein

POSTED: 2:12 pm EDT July 14, 2008

(Sports Network) - Rain prevented main draw action from getting underway Monday at the $175,000 Gastein Ladies tennis event.

Three matches were on the Day-1 schedule, including ones for fourth-seeded Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier and seventh-seeded Czech Iveta Benesova, but they were pushed back until Tuesday because of inclement weather.

Also, last week's Palermo titlist, Italian Sara Errani, pulled out of the draw here, citing a shoulder injury. Errani was the sixth seed.

This week's top seeds are Hungarian Agnes Szavay and last week's Budapest titlist Alize Cornet of France. Italian Francesca Schiavone, who is not defending her title this week, topped Austria's own Yvonne Meusburger in last year's Bad Gastein finale.

The winner of this clay-court tournament will collect $28,000.
