COLUMBIA STATION, Ohio -- Sixty-three percent of Americans have a four-legged member of their family, and the pet business is a big one, to the tune of $38 billion a year.NewsChannel5's Tracy Carloss reported on a place in northeast Ohio where pets can vacation in the lap of luxury.Precious pooches can vacation at the Little River Pet Resort in Columbia Station while their "parents" take trips on their own. But Little River isn't just any kennels. The dogs have hours of playtime and more."We have 4½ acres, so we go on hikes in the woods. We have a trail built into the woods," said Little River's Tim Tringhese. There's sun to soak up, pools in which to swim, through which to tunnel, and special TLC time."One-half hour of concentrated one-on-one time with a pet that needs that kind of interaction," said Tringhese.Little Ginger has spent many vacations at the pet resort, and her owners are thrilled with the care she received."We're able to enjoy ourselves a lot more when we go because we know she is being taken care of," said Natalie Johnson.Ginger also goes to Little River for doggy day care to hang out with her four-legged friends. There are balls to chase and trees under which to relax.Laurie Stanley wants to be a vet some day, so this summer, she has her dream job: entertaining the lovable mutts."Most of them play with the other dogs while here. If not, we'll throw the ball or walk around with them to make sure they get exercise during the day," said Stanley. When playtime is over, the pampered pups retire to their rooms. Ginger has a deluxe room with lots of space for rest and relaxation. The rooms are climate-controlled, with air conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter, and there is satellite radio piped through the building all day and all night for comfort and relaxation. For people who would rather take their pets on vacation with them, many hotels now have pet-friendly policies. Several chains have announced policies that include everything from pet pillows to plush doggie robes, and even bones and turn-down treats.
