CLEVELAND -- You've heard of Viagra, Levitra and other sex boosters for men, but now there's a new product being tested that could be on the market soon, and it's for both men and women. The new sexual booster is totally different from the pills, and comes in the form of a nasal spray.Dr. Cheryl Kingsburg, of University Hospitals, says sexual desire and function problems are more common then we think. And although it's still in the testing phase, the spray, called PT-141, claims to help everyone's low libido, reported 5 On Your Side's Alicia Scicolone. The product is sprayed through the nose, and developers say it begins to act immediately.Although it sounds easy to use and the concept sounds amazing, Kingsburg said if you want to use it as a quick fix, it probably won't work."If what you have is a long standing relationship where two people are very happy but the spark or some of that drive has faded, this drug will probably be very helpful for that couple," said Kingsburg.NewsChannel5 asked some people how helpful they think the sex spray would be, and most people seem to think it sounds like a good idea.Henry Wiggins said he likes the idea, and it would be a good product as long as it's medically safe.Melissa Fritz also likes the concept: "There's tons of other products on the market for that, so why not a nasal spray?"PT-141 is in phase three of testing, and will then be handed to the Food and Drug Administration for approval.Kingsberg is pushing to have University Hospitals be one of the nationwide testing sites. Even though the product is in one of the last phases of testing, it could be two years before PT-141 is available through your doctor.
