Walking Off Fast Food Could Take Consumers Far
Many Meals Contain More Calories Than Some Consumers Realize
Many Americans cheat on their diets and eat a few more calories than they should, thinking they can work it off later with a little walk. But many may need to walk further than they expected.
While deals like McDonalds’ two Big Macs for $3 may seem like a good idea for your wallet, they may not be as healthy for your waistline.
NewsChannel5’s Alicia Booth reported that eating the two Big Macs alone will pile more than 1,000 calories into your stomach in one sitting.
Cindy Moore, R.D.L.D., of the Cleveland Clinic, said many are unaware how many calories they’re consuming.
“People really don’t realize that this is way more than they need for a lunch meal or dinner meal and that they’re really going to have to incorporate physical activity in order to burn that off,” said Moore.
Many walkers could be sweating a little longer to burn off the calories than they thought.
“Since those Big Macs are going to contribute about 1,200 calories and you burn about 100 calories in a mile, you’re going to have to walk about 12 miles,” said Moore.
Booth said a walk of that length is equivalent to a stroll from the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame to Parma Town Mall, or the length of 176 football fields.
Booth reported adding fries and a Coke to the Big Macs brings another eight miles to your plate --a grand total of 20 miles to work it off.
The Big Mac meal is more than half the daily calorie allowance for most women, who should generally be taking in about 2,000 calories each day, reported Booth.
