CLEVELAND -- It's the latest trend to protect yourself, your family and your home online. It tells you if you have a cheating spouse, or if your kids get a threatening e-mail. It's called "Cyber Sleuth." The phone jack, the cable -- they are small but powerful enough to invite a dangerous world into your home, NewsChannel5 reported. If your son, daughter, husband or wife spends hours in front of the computer screen, your home can lead to suspicions and secrets. Now, a new tool lets you watch someone's every move online, while that person may be unaware they're being spied on. Several people have turned to the software to spy on loved ones. One woman doesn't want her husband to know she's talking with NewsChannel5. "As soon as we purchased our first computer, it became an obsession," she said. Her marriage was in big trouble and she has the documents to prove it. Her story is not uncommon. She suspected her husband -- a truck driver who spends days away from home -- of having an affair. Her suspicions started when a computer entered their home. "I think as his knowledge increased for the computer, he spent more and more time on it," she said. She installed computer software called Spectorsoft. It allows you to see everything that someone does on their computer -- view every Web site they visit, read every chat they have with someone. In no time, she said her suspicions were confirmed. "Once I had it installed, I had information by the next morning," she said. She got documents showing her husband's online chats, conversations he thought were private. She said these prove her husband was having an affair with at least four women. "What I'm reading, I can't believe what I am reading. I think I am in shock," she said. The information she got from spying on her husband changed her life. She has now filed for divorce. For some people, the Internet is a window to temptation. One man of God chose to be spied on as a way to help fight temptation when he faces a computer. "I would say that my addiction to pornography just means I've got to get out of it just completely and totally as possible," the man said. He is a youth pastor at a Paola Presbyterian Church. His job is to help kids through their teenage troubles. But he talks openly about his own problems. He admits he is addicted to pornography. To help fight his addiction, he voluntarily installed the spy software onto his work computer. Now, a co-worker watches everything he does online. He knows he's accountable to a higher power, but knowing another set of eyes are watching helps him stay away from temptation. "I think I would be struggling year after year after year if there wasn't something in place," he said. NewsChannel5 spoke with a private investigator who uses this software to spy on cheating spouses. His advice, before using the software, was to make sure you install it on a computer you own, not someone's work laptop for example. If not, you could be opening yourself up to more than just relationship troubles. If you are interested in monitoring your kids' computer use, check out this story.
