CLEVELAND, OH - Indians team president Mark Shapiro is helping to bring awareness to local youth coaches and athletes thanks to a national program called the Positive Coaching Alliance.
Jim Thompson is the Founder and CEO of the Positive Coaching Alliances, it was started in 1998 at the University of Stanford.
"Initially Positive Coaching Alliance is all about coaches and kids how do we stop coaches from doing things that drive kids out of sports"
Thompson with the help of nationally known sports figures like former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and former NFL quarterback Steve Young have started to spread the word nationally and it caught the attention of Indians President Mark Shapiro who blind emailed Thompson to ask how he could get involved.
Within an hour the two men were talking and Shapiro was on the board for the latest chapter being announced this week in Cleveland. Cavaliers GM Chris Grant and Dan Hurwitz the CEO of DDR Corp are also on the Northeast Ohio board and ready to spread the word.
Shapiro said "We want to get into as many schools, as many rec leagues, as many competitive leagues as there are out there"
