AKRON, Ohio - The Akron RubberDucks announced Monday a naming contest for the team's new mascot, which will be unveiled Opening Night, April 10.
The winner will receive season tickets and a chance to participate in the unveiling ceremony.
Starting Monday on the RubberDucks website , a cartoon design of the new mascot will be revealed in pieces. Fans can then send names for the new mascot to the RubberDucks email , with the name suggestion in the subject line and his or her name, address, and phone number in the body of the message.
An online vote from among the top five names, as determined by the RubberDucks front office, will run from Thu., March 27 to Fri., April 4. The winning name will be announced Mon., April 7 and the mascot will make its official debut on Opening Night. The winner of the contest will be selected at random from those fans who submitted the winning name.
“A mascot is an important part of a franchise’s identity. We think our new mascot captures the fun fans of all ages have at Canal Park,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. “We think the new duck mascot will make a great addition to our family of performers, which includes Orbit the space cat and Homer the inflatable polka dotted pigeon.”
