LONDON - A Middletown, Ohio, native has won gold in the 78kg weight class of the Judo competition at the London Olympics.
Kayla Harrison, 22, defeated Gemma Gibbons, 25, of Great Britain in the gold medal match. It is the United States' first ever gold medal in Olympic Judo.
Harrison is the second southwest Ohio native to take home a medal during the 2012 Olympics, with Nick Thoman, of Cincinnati, taking home silver in the 100m backstroke.
Harrison also won a world championship in 2010.
