CHESTERLAND,Ohio - Hurdler and long jumper Chantel Richardson of West Geauga High School is a four-time state qualifier.
She was the state champion in the 100 meter hurdles her sophomore year. Her junior year, she was the state champion in the long jump and runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles. Now, as a senior, she is a state qualifier in the 100 meter hurdles and long jump.
"As the competition gets better, I seen it time and time again, she'll rise to the occasion. If a kid jumps 17 feet, she's going to jump 17 feet and a inch," said girls head track coach Mike Taurasi.
Chantel also shines in the school choir and in the classroom. But for Chantel, track is not her number one priority.
"Education is the top priority, track comes second. I have to get the academics first because after track is over what is going to carry me through life is my education to get a job," Chantel said.
Chantel will be running track for George Mason University next year as she pursues a degree in criminology.
