MADISON, Ohio - Katarina Funk of Madison High School is the leading runner for the Blue Streaks in cross country and track. During the 2012 summer break, she ran more than 400 miles in training for the cross country season. With her hard training, she helped the cross country team qualify for the 2012 regional meet.
"The thing that's set her apart is that she trains all year around. She has really started a legacy here among the distance runners and it's something we haven't had here in a few years," said girls head cross country and track coach Kelly Chandler.
Katarina wants to be more than a runner. With a 4.4 grade point average and excelling in math and science, she is ranked in the top five in her class.
"I want to work really hard in school so I can be a biochemist and research diseases so I can hopefully cure them," said Katarina.
